What we need
What Kind of Volunteers We Need at I Kare NC
At I Kare NC, volunteers are the backbone of our work to uplift youth, support families impacted by incarceration, and push for meaningful justice reform. We welcome compassionate, skilled, and purpose-driven individuals who are ready to help us build stronger, safer communities. Below are the types of volunteers we’re currently seeking:
Youth Mentors & Peer Support
We are seeking caring adults and near-peer mentors, including teens and young adults, to guide and inspire youth through our empowerment and prevention programs. Mentors and peer supporters provide encouragement, accountability, and life skills that help young people avoid risky behaviors, make positive choices, and stay on a path of purpose and possibility. We especially welcome individuals with lived experiences who have overcome challenges or navigated the justice system, as their stories and perspectives can empower youth in unique and meaningful ways. By joining us, mentors become part of a supportive network working to break cycles of violence and incarceration while shaping brighter futures for young people.
Credible Messengers
I Kare NC is seeking justice-impacted credible messengers to mentor at-risk youth in North Carolina. We believe the people who have walked through the system, learned from their experiences, and chosen a different path are some of the most powerful teachers our young people can have. As a credible messenger with I Kare NC, you’ll help youth build conflict resolution skills, make safer choices, and see new possibilities for their future. Through mentorship, group sessions, and healing-centered conversations, you’ll use your story not as something to be ashamed of, but as a tool for hope, accountability, and change.
We are especially looking for individuals who are stable in their reentry, passionate about youth, and committed to breaking cycles of violence, incarceration, and trauma.
If you’re ready to turn your experience into impact and help guide the next generation, I Kare NC would love to connect with you.
Advocacy & Outreach Volunteers
If you’re passionate about justice reform, we need advocates to help educate the community, assist with campaigns, and organize events that raise awareness about incarceration issues and policy change.
Family Support Advocates
Volunteers who can provide resources, emotional support, and guidance to families navigating the criminal justice system are essential. Lived experience is valued, but not required.
Administrative and Event Support
Help us keep our programs running smoothly! We need organized individuals to assist with data entry, communications, volunteer coordination, and event logistics.
Legal & Policy Volunteers
We welcome law students, legal professionals, and policy researchers to contribute their expertise to our advocacy and reform efforts.
Creative & Communications Volunteers
If you have skills in graphic design, social media management, photography, or storytelling, help us amplify the voices of those we serve and broaden our impact.
No matter your skill set, your time and dedication can help I Kare NC make a real difference. Join us in the fight for fairness, freedom, and justice!
